Network Administrator Jobs

A network consists of foundation components through which computer systems and shared peripherals communicate with each other. A Network Administrator is held responsible for installing and maintaining the computer network of a company.

Network Administrator jobs signifies the involvement of engineers in computer networks. Network Administrators are fundamentally the network equivalent of system administrators. The main purpose of a Network Administrator is to provide and refer a sturdy base of processes for administering a network environment daily. The job as mentioned involves maintenance of hardware and software composed in a network. This normally includes the deployment, maintenance and monitoring of active network gear: switches, routers, firewalls, etc. Network administration commonly includes activities such as network address assignment, assignment of routing protocols and routing table configuration as well as configuration of authentication and authorization – directory services. Network Administrators carry out the processes and procedures that are essential for the smooth operation of a network services. These services include Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), and Domain Name System (DNS) regularly. The job of a Network Administrator also includes the maintenance of network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers. It sometimes also includes maintenance of certain network servers like file servers, VPN gateways, intrusion detection systems, etc. Network Administrators often concentrate on the network design and security and especially troubleshooting.

Sometimes the administrator’s network management functions like providing support services, ensuring the efficiency of the network and verifying service quality. A Network Administrator should upgrade the network components for running a proactive network operation. The Network Administrator should aim for a proper plan and strategic positioning of services to expand existing network facilities and support services to troubleshoot and repair faults in the network environment. The administrator should provide a general guidance for the configuration and maintenance of the hardware and software components of a network. The job of Network Administration is accomplished in a characteristic manner with the application, presentation, and session layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) stack, which mostly consists of hardware. At the transport level there is some superimposition between network and system administration including the linking and networking protocols that enable the transfer of data from one point to another.
